Not Just Another Book Review
After my two week marathon of the Twilight series I vowed that I
needed a break from reading. Since April I've read approximately 13
books and listened to another 3 so a break was long overdue. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't let every other aspect of my life suffer while I was submerged in my latest discovery, but true to form I can't do anything in moderation...reading included. I suffer from the opposite of ADD - I can only focus on one thing at a time, and until it's done that's all I do. I purchased The Kite Runner before I started the Twilight series so I felt some sort of obligation to this book (yes, you read that right, I am just that crazy!) to read it since I passed it up previously. It wasn't my typical story line but neither was Twilight so I was willing to take a chance again. After reading The Kite Runner I had to immediately run out and find Hosseini's 2nd novel A Thousand Splendid Suns. Although it's a separate book entirely I needed to read more. Both stories are so incredibly sad but more then that they capture, dare I say the cliche', the triumph of the human spirit. These characters exemplify resilience and more so they made me appreciate each and every gift I have. I've heard Oprah say so many times before that if you are born a woman in the United States that you already are one of the luckiest women in the world. I understand that so much more now and I am so indebted to this author for allowing me to realize that. These are two of my most favorite stories out of the hundreds I've read since I was a teenager. I can say without any doubt that they have given me insight on the true meaning of redemption and reminded me of what I have - if that's not life changing then I don't know what is. This blog kind of went a different direction for me then I was originally intending but I guess this is my purpose for doing this anyways, right? I'm putting my thoughts on "paper" and letting them lead me wherever.

I really enjoyed reading the kite runner about a year ago, i will now go get "a Thousand Splendid Suns" I also loved Kite Runner and constantly bugged Michael with questions like "Listen to this part in the book...did you see this or that in afghanistan"...etc...
I loved The Kite Runner also, I may have to go get the next one. Gee... I'm still trying to get throught the Nanny Diaries - it's been hard to read since Owen dropped his nap, school started and shows are back on. give me strenght!
Also loved Kite Runner. I will pick up Thousand Suns. He is a great writer!
I haven't read that one yet. I'll have to give it a try, I've been at a loss for something to do on my lunch breaks!
