Question: What do you get when you combine a baby blessing with brunch afterwards?
Answer: two free bunnies (+ $70 spent on supplies)
Is this a strange form of new math you might ask? Well, not exactly. Darren's younger brother Dennis and his wife Julie blessed their new baby, Landon. We were invited to brunch afterwards at Julie's parent's home and while there her mom informed everyone that she had free bunnies up for grabs. Let the begging begin. Reilly was tireless and eventually Darren gave in. Knowing our history with pets he wasn't too excited but he's a sucker for Reilly. She was so excited and upon hearing that Reilly was getting a bunny, Jacob immediately wanted one for himself. If you're getting one, why not two...right? Ryann and Evan have also enjoyed the new additions although they are now eager for their own. (Evan really wants a "skinny" pig though (guinea pig).) They are actually really cute and are very quiet so as far as pets go they aren't too bad. Reilly and Jacob have had to research caring for bunnies and they are learning a lot. I think it's good for kids to learn to care for pets and I love seeing the joy on their faces when they are holding and interacting with them. They had water frogs before and didn't understand why they couldn't take them for a "really quick walk" down the street to show their friends. I'm hoping that they continue to care for and enjoy their new pets but Darren and my dad have a bet going on how long until they loose interest - we'll see.
So, this morning after the kids went to school I thought it would be fun for Ryann and Evan to play with the bunnies without the "supervision" of the older two. I got them out and put them in their laps and after about 3 seconds the bunnies were on the loose hiding under the beds. No problem - they can't be too hard to catch...yeah right. I caught the first one after only a few minutes but I spent a good part of 20 minutes trying to catch the second one. If this was anyone else trying to trap this little guy I would have been laughing my head off - but since it was me and I was sweating profusely and literally diving barely missing the bunny but banging my whole body into the side of the bed - it wasn't too funny. I had Evan trying to scare the bunny on one end while I hid trying to sneak up on it on the other end. Several bruises later the 2 beds were shoved together in the middle of the room, I was so sweaty I was in need of another shower - I crouched down under the bed with green leaf lettuce slowly easing the bunny close enough to finally catch it! I literally screamed for joy when I got it and Evan started jumping up and down on the bed with his arms in the air screaming "You won!". I "gently" placed the bunny in the cage, locked it, and being the mature mom that I am quietly let out my victory cheer "stupid bunnies". Like I said - funny to watch, not so funny to chase.

You are so funny! I cannot believe you have bunnies -- Dane just told me that he, once again, has no interest in pets at this time. I want to be on the bet with Darren and Dad -- 2 weeks (and that's being generous...) Good luck with the bundles of joy -- what are thier names???
I'm laughing my head off just reading about it--mostly because I am so glad it is you and not me. You are a nice mom! Jenny had a bunny, but I think they kept it outside.
LMBO. That's great Em! Wish I could have been there. How many times have I been injured while you've stood by laughing? hmmm....
Em, Next time I come out, would you mind reinacting this for me. My imagination is good but I'm sure it's not as great as the real deal.
LOL - that's too funny. Just make sure you don't leave them outside for some crazy neighbors (who bathes in their back yard) take the bunnies and eat them... that's right! What are their names anyway??? My suggestion is Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum
